The name SEPPi
The name 'SEPPi' is inspired by "Standard Essential Patents Pick-up" — the idea of picking out, from a mountain of patents, the ones that are likely to be standard-essential. We took the initials of that phrase and shaped them into the name 'SEPPi'.

A Standard Essential Patent (SEP) covers technology that must be used to implement a communications standard such as 3GPP. Because standard-compliant products and services cannot avoid a SEP, determining whether a patent is standard-essential is a critical first step in licensing and dispute response.
